I hope you had a great 4th of July with family, friends, and grilling!

My favorite story of the week was an interview piece with Scott Moody, co-owner of PK Grills. He joined them in 2014 and since then the company has really been transformed. We talked about the history of the company and what makes them the best charcoal grills.

Solo Stove has been quickly transforming from a fire pit company into an outdoor lifestyle company. The transition was really accelerated when they purchased Terraflame. Now, there’s a trademark filing from Solo Stove for outdoor torches, which means they’ll likely continue that trend.

Kingsford announced that they’re cutting 62 jobs next month when they idle briquetting and packaging lines at one of their plants. They’re shifting that production to different facilities that have excess capacity. Kingsford has been having some trouble with losing market share to all the new charcoal companies.

A great article that came out recently over at Gear Patrol is a history of the Big Green Egg. It’s told by interviewing the founder and the CEO of the company. Even if you know the history, it’s a really good read that’s worth checking out.

Finally, Academy Sports has continued their expansion plans. In what is now their northernmost store, they opened in Peoria, IL. It’s their second of fifteen planned store openings this year. The new store will carry popular outdoor cooking brands like Traeger and Yeti.
