Academy Sports + Outdoors is continuing their wave of store openings, moving into new geographies in the process. They announced today that they’ve opened a new store in Peoria, IL, which is one of their northernmost stores to date.
It’s part of their expansion plans that include a goal of opening 120 to 140 new stores by the end of 2027. That will see their geography expand from Texas, the South and Southeast, into more western and northern states.
Sam Johnson, the newly appointed EVP of Retail Operations had the following to say about the new grill retail competitor in the Peoria area.

This is Academy’s second store opening this year, with plans to open 13-15 in the year. Some popular outdoor cooking brands that the new store will carry include products from Traeger and Yeti.
Other outdoor cooking should take notice of Academy’s expansion plans. They noted on their last call that they’ve continued to take share of the market.
