Weber Grills Owned June, Maker of June Ovens, May Be No More

During the height of the pandemic fueled grill buying hysteria, Weber bought indoor smart oven company June. Even prior to the acquisition, Weber collaborated with June to develop the tech behind their Weber Connect platform and the SmokeFire pellet grill. Times have changed since then, and it would appear that June smart ovens are no longer on the menu.

Weber has gone through a transformation since they acquired June for $142.2 million in January of 2021. They’ve had an overhaul of their leadership, they took on high-priced debt, and ultimately went back private.

Perhaps June was the victim of the change in strategy, or maybe this was always the plan. In a quote from Weber’s former CEO at the time of the acquisition, he only referenced outdoor cooking.

THE ACQUISITION IS A SIGNIFICANT STEP IN THE ADVANCEMENT OF OUR STRATEGY TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE OUTDOOR COOKING EXPERIENCE THROUGH DIGITAL PRODUCTS, SERVICES, AND EXPERIENCES THAT MAKE GRILLING MORE DYNAMIC AND EXCITING. JUNE HAS BEEN AN INVALUABLE PARTNER IN DEVELOPING OUR WEBER CONNECT PLATFORM. ADDING JUNE’S EXPERTISE AND TECHNOLOGY TO OUR OWN ALLOWS US TO ACCELERATE OUR CONNECTED INNOVATION PROGRAMS AND BETTER ADDRESS GRILLERS’ NEEDS WITH NEW PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THAT OFFER SIMPLICITY AND FUEL GRILLING DISCOVERY THROUGH ENHANCED CAPABILITIES.

Either way, it would appear that the June Oven is no longer for sale. All of their products are listed as “sold out” on the June website. Also, an article in The Spoon references a post made by Andru Edwards, a writer for GearLive, that was made on Reddit.

Just got the word from Weber themselves here at CES. The June Oven will continue receiving software updates, but no plans for a new model. The tech from June is now being integrated into the new Weber grills. Was hoping for June Oven Gen 4, but it’s not in the cards, unfortunately!

Another indicator is if you click on the “Accessories” section of the June website it also redirects you to Weber’s website. There, you are greeted with ad for Weber’s Lumin electric grill.

June seemed to have a passionate following, so it’s disappointing to see it shelved. Weber could have even developed it into an indoor smoker to compete with the new GE Profile indoor smoker. Regardless, it’s likely no longer in their strategy.
