Spider Grills started their company by releasing innovative accessories that transformed the Weber kettle. Their Venom controller lets the user set a temperature on a kettle much like a pellet grill, and the controller does the rest.
They took that same focus on engineering when they built their own grill, the Huntsman. It combines thermodynamic properties of a Kamado grill with a metal body like a kettle grill and incorporates the tech that they designed.
Up until now, Spider Grills has sold DTC through their website. They’ve been growing though, and now have expanded into BBQ dealers. They just partnered with The Grill Center in Sherwood, Oregon.
Expanding into specialty retail is an exciting next step for Spider Grills. We’ve built the brand primarily through direct-to-consumer sales, and we see a real opportunity to introduce the Huntsman to customers in an environment where they can experience the product firsthand and work with knowledgeable outdoor cooking dealers. Our initial focus will be on growing the Huntsman line within specialty retail, but as our dealer network expands, there’s certainly potential to bring more of the Spider Grills assortment into stores as well. The early response has been incredibly encouraging and reinforces our belief that there’s a growing audience looking for the authentic flavor of charcoal combined with the control, convenience and connectivity of modern grilling technology.

The new distribution model is a win for Spider Grills and for dealers. For Spider Grills, it gives them a place that consumers can touch and feel the quality of their grill. Plus, the Huntsman has a number of innovative features, so it presents the opportunity for education about what sets it apart.
For dealers, it gives them a unique product to sell. It’s has thick steel, a little bit of a different design, and a higher level of quality. Dealers also don’t have to try to compete with large retailers on selling it.
Spider Grills has been growing rapidly over the past few years while the overall industry has been struggling. I think they’ll be successful expanding into the dealer network because they bring that momentum they’ve built to a new segment of customers. I wouldn’t be surprised to see quite a few more dealers jumping on the opportunity to partner with them in the near future.
