Today Masterbuilt launched not only a new grill and smoker combo, but a whole new technology for grilling and smoking. The Masterbuilt Gravity Series 560 Grill + Smoker features patent pending technology for an innovative way to use charcoal fuel. It’s perfect for anyone in the market for a pellet grill, because it combines the ease and convenience of a pellet grill with the flavor of charcoal without the need for proprietary charcoal.

Update: Read our full review on the Gravity Series.

The way the new Masterbuilt Gravity Series works is a hopper is loaded with either charcoal briquettes or lump charcoal, then a fire is lit in the bottom of the hopper. A fan and controller are then used to control the airflow and thereby the temperature on the grill. Check-out the video below for a visual demonstration of the Masterbuilt charcoal smoker.

The Gravity Series 560 uses a phone controlled, WiFi and Bluetooth enabled thermostat and can reach 700 degrees F in 13 minutes, or can reach 225 degrees F in 7 minutes for smoking. The grill and smoker combo also has the following features.

  • Available online on December 1st and in stores in Spring 2020
  • Retail price of $497
  • 560 square inches of cooking area
  • Up to 15 hours of cook time off of a full hopper
  • Ability to smoke, grill, bake, sear, warm, BBQ, roast and braise

If you prefer a barrel style grill and smoker, Char-Griller is the only other company offering a gravity fed charcoal grill with the Char-Griller 980.
