If there’s one company that is at the forefront of electric cooking, it’s Current Backyard. Their Model G+ electric grill is in a league of its own and their Model P pizza oven is a solid product.

At this point they’re competing with themselves, but they just announced the release of two improved products. The Model G2 grill and the Model P+ pizza oven, which both offer improvements over the previous versions.

With the Model G2 and Model P+, we’re removing the barriers to outdoor cooking. This is about making it easier for people to cook, gather, and entertain, wherever they live.

Model G2 Electric Grill

The newly announced Model G2 has a strong electric cooking lineage. In unofficial terms, the Charbroil EDGE begat the Model G, which born the Model G+, that then led the way to the new G2.

As I’m writing this, I’m realizing that I’ve reviewed the whole family tree up to the new G2. Each one pushed the envelope a little further, and the current (no pun intended) generations are really strong grills.

The new G2 promises to take the improvements of the G+ one step further. It retails for an additional $100 at $1,199 (check price), but with it gives you more even heating and easier cleaning.

The only major knock on the Model G family is that doing a deep clean would be tough. Underneath the dishwasher-safe cooking grates are heating elements that are fixed in position over reflective metal.

It doesn’t really give you any room to maneuver to be able to clean the metal underneath. I don’t deep clean this area, but it would be nice to have the ability.

The G2 has removable heat elements, so it gets rid of that hurdle. There aren’t any photos or videos of the system yet, but I’m interested in how it works.

With the release of the G2, it appears that the Model G is going away. It has a few less features than the G+ and G2 but it’s still a great option, and is a little cheaper than the newer models.

Model P+ Electric Pizza Oven

The Model P pizza oven was Current’s first venture out of grills. What’s nice about the Model P, that you won’t find on some competitors, is it’s designed for indoor or outdoor use.

It has the ability to reach 850 degrees F for cooking a variety of pizza styles and other food. It also is a connected oven that makes cooking easier with the Current app through temperature monitoring, timers, and recipes.

Current has improved on the Model P with the announcement of the soon to be released Model P+ that retails for $699 (check price). The main improvement with the P+ is the claimed heating time to 850 degrees F is 3 minutes shorter at 15 minutes.

That’s really the main improvement that you want in a pizza oven, quicker heating times. Beyond that it appears similar to the Model P, offering easy cooking with no turning needed.

Having a pizza oven in the kitchen offers another level of convenience. It keeps you from running in and out of the house to make a pizza.

On those days that making pizza from scratch isn’t in the cards, I’ll pop a frozen pizza in there and it cooks it even faster and tastier than my oven. It also can be used as just another oven too.
