For the cook that wants to griddle with electricity, Blackstone has the E-Series. This line offers the space of a griddle, but the ability to use it indoors on a standard outlet.

The extra space is nice, and it’s good for breakfast on the weekend, but it’s power is somewhat limited. That’s a common complaint on many electric grills, they just don’t offer the power of their gas counterparts.

Enter the Blackstone Electric Drop-in Griddle, a griddle that’s purpose built for an outdoor kitchen. The fact that it’s a built-in is what makes it stand out from other electric griddles.

That gives it the ability to run on 240V power, rather than a standard outlet at half that. The extra boost of power also means a richer feature set than other electric griddles.

Features and Specs

  • Retail price of $1,999 (check price)
  • Over 32 inches wide with a total of 845 square inches of cooking space
  • Temperature range of 120-600° F for cooking a variety of food

  • Includes a stainless steel hood
  • Has three independent zones for cooking different food at once

Thicker Griddle Plate

With the limitations of electricity, the griddle plates on electric grills are usually pretty thin. It would just take too long for them to heat up a thick plate of steel.

The Electric Drop-in Griddle features one of the thicker griddle plates that we’ve seen on an electric griddle. That’s nice for keeping temperature and for a better feel while using it.

This griddle also uses Blackstone’s Omnivore griddle plate technology, which was first seen on their gas griddles. It offers even cooking, quicker heat-up times, and more efficiency.

Electric Cooking

One nice thing about electricity as a fuel source is it takes the guess work out of temperature control. The knobs on this Blackstone have a digital temperature display on them that you use to set the temperature of the griddle.

That means there’s know guessing how hot the griddle will get from looking at the flame, or trial and error after burning food. It also gets rid of temperature creep that you can get when cooking on a griddle.

Rear Grease Management

One of the best things about using an outdoor griddle is the grease management. It makes cooking and cleaning easier, especially with messy food.

Blackstone puts their grease management in the back, which I like the best. That keeps it from taking up real estate with a hole in the front, and it feels more comfortable to push utensils rather than pull.

This electric Blackstone keeps with that design and has a rear grease management system. It is a built-in griddle though, so to overcome the lack of accessibility in the back, there’s a front access drawer. That was a smart way to design it.

Conclusion

Blackstone has been expanding more and more into the outdoor kitchen space. I like that they’re also expanding their fuel offerings by releasing the Electric Drop-in Griddle. Using 240V power is a great way to give more of the griddling experience people are used too. This griddle is definitely worth a look for an outdoor kitchen build.
