Middleby has been evaluating their brands and looking to maximize shareholder value through spinoffs. Their Food Processing business has already been earmarked to be spun off, and it’s possible another business unit is also a candidate.

Their Residential business unit doesn’t have the same margin profile as their much larger Commercial business and there was a rumor that Middleby was shopping it. Middleby acquired their grill brands, which sit in Residential, at the end of 2021 when the grill market was exploding.

Since then, the market came crashing down, and all of their Residential business is facing pressure from a stretched consumer and record low home sales. To help evaluate their overall strategy and execute on transformation initiatives, Middleby has appointed Rebecca Ellin to the newly created role of Senior Vice President, Investor Strategy and Corporate Development.

As we continue positioning Middleby for sustained long-term growth, Rebecca’s deep industry knowledge, extensive investor community experience, and capital markets expertise will be invaluable. Her appointment strengthens our team and ability to execute our strategic initiatives, including our upcoming Food Processing spinoff, and effectively communicate our compelling value proposition to the investment community.

Tim FitzGerald, CEO of Middleby

Rebecca Ellin will report to Tim FitzGerald, and her work will be very cross-functional while she drives investor engagement and helps develop the long-term growth strategy. Her responsibilities will include evaluating capital allocation priorities, managing capital market initiatives, and ensuring strategic communication with investors, analysts, and key stakeholders.

Rebecca Ellin comes to Middleby from Baron Capital Group where she worked for 18 years, culminating in the role of Vice President, Research Analyst. She has an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania.
