Canadian hardware retailer RONA has has acquired a direct delivery center and five stores from RONA Atlantic Ltd in Atlantic Canada. The stores are RONA Halifax, RONA Elmsdale, RONA Tantallon, RONA Moncton and RONA Charlottetown stores, as well as the Windmill Road direct delivery center.

The entity naming is a bit confusing but the stores were affiliate (not Corporate) locations owned by RONA Atlantic Ltd. That entity was formed by real estate investment firm Terraine. They purchased the Halifax Regional Municipality stores in 2024 from Corporate, then added the other locations shortly after. Not much time has passed, but RONA is purchasing the stores to “ensure the longevity” and pursue growth of those locations.

RONA is large hardware chain that sells grill brands like Traeger, Pit Boss, Weber, Blackstone, and Napoleon. They also launched their own house brand recently.

RONA as a brand has a history that is filled with ownership changes. They were a co-op in Canada a long time ago, went public, then were bought buy Lowe’s in 2016 for $2.4 billion and rebranded as Lowe’s.

Lowe’s couldn’t get the same profitability out of their Canadian business, so they ultimately sold it to Sycamore Partners for $400 million at the end of 2022. Sycamore Partners is a large investment firm that has investments in other retailers like Walgreens, Office Depot, and Hot Topic. Today RONA has around 450 Corporate and affiliate stores across Canada.
