Academy Sports + Outdoors Opens 7 New Stores, Completes its 2023 Goal

The recent leadership changes at Academy Sports + Outdoors hasn’t gotten in the way of their aggressive expansion goals. They announced today that they opened seven new stores across five different states this November. This give them 14 total new stores in 2023 as part of their plan to open 120 to 140 new stores by the end of 2027.

The following new stores were opened this month with a ribbon cutting ceremony, giveaways, deals and donations of more than $40,000 to the local community organizations.

  • Tampa Bay, FL
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Austin, TX
  • West Palm Beach, FL
  • Christiansburg, VA
  • Harlingen, TX
  • Springfield, IL

Academy Sports + Outdoors is excited to provide even more customers with a localized assortment that meets the needs of active families in these new communities. With the growth of these new stores and academy.com, Academy is able to help more customers have fun out there and be the destination for low prices and gifts that create lasting family memories.

Academy is set to release their Q3 2023 earnings later this week. Dick’s Sporting Goods reported earnings last week and had low single digit same store growth, so we’ll see if that’s indicative of Academy’s earnings.

Previously, Academy noted success selling products like Blackstone griddles, despite the overall outdoor cooking slowdown. They sell a range of outdoor cooking products including from brands like Traeger, Pit Boss, Weber, Masterbuilt, Ooni and PK Grills.
