Big Green Egg has really upped their game over the past few years. They’ve been focused on ways to improve the Egg while still retaining the key aspects of it that made it iconic.

They’re improving it through new accessories that make it more versatile or easier to use. The new accessories aren’t just copies of other products on the market either. They’re thinking about function and design to create a better cooking experience.

You can see it with their rotisserie that can run off a battery pack. They thought about where and how their customers cook to make sure it integrates.

When they released a wireless temperature probe, they could have just bought some cheap one, white labeled it, and sold a bunch of units. Instead, they partnered with one of the best companies in the business for temperature measurement.

Quick Light Kit

Manually lighting the charcoal in an Egg can be a joy because of how simplistic it is. It’s just you with some charcoal and fire, which is a great way to cook.

There are a few different ways to light an Egg but the most popular way is by placing fire starters on top of the charcoal inside the cooker. Captain Ron made some great videos with FOGO Charcoal on the Big Green, including one on lighting it.

The only problem with lighting an Egg is it can be a little slow. That’s fine for the weekends, but after work on a weekday, you just want to eat.

To solve this problem, Big Green Egg released a new accessory for faster lighting. The Quick Light Kit replaces the charcoal grate in the Egg to be able to be lit from the bottom, instead of the top.

It gives more airflow through the charcoal and the allows you to use the Quick Light tool. Again with this, they focused on design.

You load the end up with fire starters, light it while it’s slightly inside the Egg, then place it under the charcoal. They were smart with how they made it so it rests on the vent on the bottom of the Egg. That’s a creative way to create a new use for an existing design.

Once the starter is in place, the Egg effectively acts as a big charcoal chimney. That allows you to get to temp and cleaner smoker more quickly. Big Green Egg released a video that shows the new product in action.
