Traeger’s New Griddle Takes a Shot at Blackstone with Price and Heat

Traeger released their much anticipated Irontop griddle today. They’ve always played in the premium space with their products, including their griddles, but this new one is priced right where all the competition is.

The Irontop comes in two different configurations, a 2-burner model that retails for $499.99, and a 4-burner model for $599.99. That’s a price point that’s long been dominated by Blackstone since they introduced the griddle category.

Features and Specs

  • 2-burner has 504 square inches of cooking area and the 4-burner has 648 square inches
  • Two side shelves and a bottom shelf give plenty of prep space
  • Wind guards extend below the griddle plate to make cooking easier in windy weather
  • Hinged lid protects your griddle when it’s not in use

Uniquely Traeger

Beyond the regular features that you find on many grills, there are some that are unique to the Irontop. The first is the griddle plate has a rust-resistant food-safe coating.

With the coating, you still have to season your griddle before use and after cooking, but it’s pre-treated. That should help kick off the process and avoid rust between use.

Carrying over from their latest generation of grills, the ends of the side shelves on the Irontop have Traeger’s Pop-And-Lock (P.A.L.) system. This lets you attached accessories to it, like a paper towel holder, to add even more functionality.

Traeger also went a different route with their grease management system. Rather than a small tray to catch grease, like you find on other griddles, they went with a bucket.

I think it’s a nice touch because it’s a nod to their pellet grills that made them popular in the first place. Plus, a bucket gives lots of capacity to catch grease.

Traeger vs. Blackstone

Traeger didn’t just indirectly challenge Blackstone with their new griddle on price, they are specifically calling them out. Their website says that the new Irontop has more even heating that Blackstone’s Omnivore griddle plate that’s found on their griddles.

The caption on the image says the following about the comparison between the two griddles.

“Traeger VS. Blackstone

Even heat that beats the competition*

Irontop™ delivers more consistent heat across the entire cooktop than Blackstone Omnivore griddles.

*Based on head to head testing conducted by Traeger in March 2026 against Blackstone 36″ 4-Burner Omnivore Griddle and Blackstone 28″ 2-Burner Omnivore Griddle under controlled conditions. Temperature variation measured as max minus min across the cooktop surface at 10 minutes of high heat.

Shots fired! Like the east coast / west coast rap feud in the 90’s, Traeger has beef, and even some pancakes.

Who can reign supreme between the two northern Utah companies? The only rational way to handle it is Blackstone needs to drop a diss track, then the two companies can have a cookoff in Ogden.

I don’t have a dog in the fight, but competition drives innovation, so I’m excited about it. I’m even here to ghost write for both sides. I’ll kick it off.

Grease pooling in the corner, you’re not on my level. We’re building a Griddle Nation while you’re stuck in the Traegerhood…
