Traeger has always had pellet grills at a variety of budgets, but a grill with the full connected grilling experience commanded a premium. Over the past year though, Traeger has been actively trying to bring more people into their brand.

Their latest effort will certainly do that. They just released the awaited Westwood and the Westwood XL, their cheapest connected grills yet.

The whole world is getting more expensive, so they’re appealing a consumers where they’re at. It’s a good move by them to get even more people hooked on their brand.

Traeger has always inspired people to gather, connect, and create unforgettable flavor. With the Westwood Series, we’re advancing that legacy by bringing top‑of‑the‑line Traeger technology into a new entry‑level grill. Westwood is built with the same proven innovation that powers our premium models, giving cooks the confidence to deliver incredible meals from their very first cook.

Jeremy Andrus, CEO of Traeger Grills

The Westwood carries a retail price of $699.99 (check price) and the larger XL model is $100 more (check price). That’s a solid price point to introduce some of the premium features from their other models.

Features and Specs

  • Westwood has 653 square inches of cooking area while the XL has 823 square inches
  • A side shelf and a bottom shelf give you a good amount of prep space
  • 180-450˚F temperature range
  • 18 lb pellet hopper gives plenty of cook time without refilling

Premium Features

The key premium feature of this grill is the wireless connectivity, or as Traeger calls it, WiFIRE. That set it and forget it, watch it from your phone cooking is what made Traeger so popular in the first place. Traeger has also been at the forefront of app design too, always having a clean interface with a large guided recipe library.

Westwood also introduces people to the P.A.L. (Pop An Lock) accessory system. It’s a bar on the front of the grill where you can attach everything from a front shelf to a paper towel holder.

Design

Westwood may not have quite as many bells and whistles as it’s more expensive family, but Traeger did a good job with the overall look of the grill. I like the color they added to it instead of opting for all black.

The lid on the grill also has a nice look to it. Rather than the more modern look of some of the latest pellet grills, it blends modern with the look of their old barrel-style grills. It almost makes me nostalgic if that’s possible from a grill that was out just a few years ago.
