The Camp Chef Apex is an innovative pellet grill that came out in the summer of 2022 with the ability to cook with pellets or with propane. It aimed to solve the problem common with pellet grills of not being able to sear. It was released just as the grill industry was tanking.
Since then, Camp Chef as a brand has changed quite a bit. They changed leadership, and were brought under a new parent company that was then sold to an investment firm.
During this time it appeared that the Apex was a casualty. It didn’t seem to make a splash with consumers, and Camp Chef removed it from their website.
The report of its death was an exaggeration though. It’s living on and being sold through a different channel.
Camp Chef started partnering with Bass Pro in the summer of 2023 with a store in a store concept where Camp Chef has a dedicated space with signage and branding. This is in addition to making pellet grills for Bass Pro under their house brand.
It’s there that I spotted an Apex for sale on the floor. I’m not sure if they are just selling out old stock, or if they’re still being manufactured for Bass Pro. There’s also no listing of them on the Bass Pro website.

Only one product was recognized in the grills this year. The Traeger Woodridge Series was named as a finalists as a leader in innovation.
The Woodridge made a big splash when it was released early this year because of its value. It is at a lower price point than other Traeger pellet grills but still has much of their latest tech from a cooking and connectivity standpoint.
