We previously wrote about a possible new pellet grill called the Traeger Westwood. While we guessed that maybe it would replace the top dog Timberline, new information suggests something very different.
It’s still speculation, but there is strong evidence that the Traeger Westwood will come out at the cheapest price point in Traeger’s line-up, right under the Woodridge. It will be a pellet grill with a lower top end temperature, just like the Weber Smoque, and a less expensive price tag, like the Weber Smoque.
In fact, the Westwood appears like it will be released with a $699 price tag, which is $100 cheaper than the suggested retail price of the Smoque. What’s interesting is the Smoque originally was priced at $699, but Weber raised the price by $100 once the tariffs hit.
We’ve also heard a rumor that there will be two difference sizes for the Westwood. We haven’t seen specs on the larger version.
Features and Specs
This information could change if/when the grill is released.
- Retail price of $699
- Temperature range of 180 degrees F to 450 degrees F
- Has WiFire for connected grilling with the Traeger app
- 653 square inches of cooking area
- On-board digital controller
- Includes a wired meat probe
- 18 lb pellet hopper
Strategy
Assuming the Westwood is released in the near future, it’s a smart move by Traeger. The grill market currently is bogged down by a stretched consumer and increasing prices.
Traeger has had success recently through promotion to move pellet grills. A new grill at a cheaper price point should meet consumers where they are looking. It also helps fend off Weber’s new releases, and could preserve the price point of Traeger’s more expensive grills.
Despite it being a less expensive grill, it still comes with features that consumers are after like a digital screen and connected grilling. It’s a good entry point into the “Traegerhood”.
