Wire Grill Brush Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Nexgrill

The fallout from the recent recalls on grill brushes with wire bristles has continued. The recalls stem from wire bristles dislodging from brushes during cleaning, attaching to food, then being ingested when the food is eaten.

There have been numerous reports of people requiring medical attention and suffering damage to their internal organs. It led to Weber performing a voluntary recall of 3.2 million grill brushes and Nexgrill also performing a voluntary recall of 10.2 million grill brushes.

It led to a class action complaint against Weber alleging failure to disclose potential safety hazards. A new class action lawsuit has been filed, this time against Nexgrill.

Woodrow Russell filed the complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California (Case 5:26-cv-03153). He is seeking to represent consumers nationwide who purchased the impacted Nexgrill grill brushes.

The complaint claims that Nexgrill knew of the safety issue with metal grill brushes for years but delayed performing a recall. It goes on to state that the recall is inadequate by only offering a gift card, instead of a cash refund, which doesn’t “fully compensate consumers for the premium price paid, or the time and burden required to participate in the Recall.”

Russell also states in the complaint that the recall doesn’t compensate consumers that are no longer in possession of a recalled grill brush. To make a claim on a recalled product, a consumer must a photograph.

Woodrow Russell purchased a Nexgrill metal wire grill brush from a Home Depot location in Oregon in the 2019 to 2020 time frame. He had wire bristles fall out while using the product, which prompted him to stop using it.
