Great Lakes Ace Continues Growing, Acquires an Additional Michigan Store

Great Lakes Ace Hardware is continuing to expand their store count. They opened two new locations this year in Ohio, and now they’re acquiring an Ace store in Michigan.

This is their first acquisition since July of 2024 when they acquired Bishop Ace Hardware, a 13-store chain in central Illinois. It adds to the theme of increasing consolidation in the hardware space.

Their latest acquisition of Macomb Ace Hardware in Macomb Township, Michigan is set to close on January 11th, 2026. It was founded in 2007 by Greg Oman, after he had a corporate career.

Our goal was to be a difference maker and trusted neighbor in our community by providing real value through knowledgeable service, quality products, and convenient access to home improvement
solutions. I am incredibly proud of what we’ve built. Most of all, I’m grateful to our team members who
brought that vision to life each day by delivering on the Ace Helpful Promise.

We are excited to transition the store to Great Lakes Ace Hardware. They share our values,
and we are confident that they will build on our strong foundation and continue to deliver excellence for
our customers and associates.

Greg Oman

With the acquisition, it brings Great Lakes Ace Hardware’s store count up to more than 75 stores across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. Great Lakes Ace is headquartered in Farmington Hills, MI, and is owned by Ace Retail Holdings.

Ace Retail Holdings also owns and operates Ace Stores under a variety of other names including Breed & Co., Buikema’s Ace, Dennis Company Ace, Great Lakes Ace, Westlake Ace, and Outer Banks Ace brands. They have over 250 stores in total.

For nearly two decades, Macomb Ace Hardware has been a vital part of the Macomb Township community. They have embodied the spirit of helpful and experienced service that is the cornerstone of the Ace brand. We’re honored to carry that legacy forward and are eager to serve the community with the same dedication and care.
