Do It Best Appoints COO to Consolidate with True Value Brand

Do It Best strategically acquired True Value out of bankruptcy in the fall of 2024. The acquisition added instant growth to the large hardware retailer.

Upon completing the acquisition, they took a slow approach to integrating the two companies. They started off operating the brands as separate entities until they could thoroughly understand the roadmap for the synergies they’d unlock.

From the beginning, our approach has been deliberate and disciplined. We knew it was important to first understand the True Value business, support retailers through the transition, and identify where integration would create the most value. We’ve made tremendous progress, and now is the right time to take the next step in operating as one organization while continuing to support two powerful national brands.

To help lead the consolidation of the two brands into one, Do It Best has named Nick Talarico as Chief Operating Officer. He’s been with Do It Best for almost 17 years, starting off in Internal Audit in 2009. In his new role, he’ll be tasked with strengthening operations, aligning the team, and supporting field operations.

Nick is the right leader for this important moment. He understands our business, our culture, and the needs of independent home improvement retailers. I have tremendous confidence in his ability to bring us together, strengthen our operations, and help us build a stronger future for Do it Best, True Value, and the members and retailers we serve.

Going slow with the integration of the two companies was a smart approach. When acquisitions don’t go as planned it’s often through a rushed integration. Understanding the uniqueness of the brands and where synergies can be had before execution is the best way to unlock value.

This is an exciting and important step forward. Do it Best and True Value each have proud histories, strong vendor partnerships, and deep relationships with independent retailers. As we continue bringing our team and operations together, our focus will remain on improving service, strengthening supply chain performance, and helping our members and retailers grow.
