Big Green Egg changed leadership a year and a half ago, and since then they’ve been focused on taking the brand into the future while preserving what makes it so great. They’ve brought in some fresh talent, and with that, a fresh perspective on product design.

The new Rotisserie that came out at the beginning of the month is a great example of where the brand is headed. It would have been easy enough for them to release a cheap, generic rotisserie, and they would have sold a bunch of units.

Instead, the new Rotisserie has some nice details to it that show where their head is at for future products. I’m excited to see how Big Green Egg continues to evolve.

Features and Specs

  • Retail price of $299 (check price) for the Large size
  • Made from marine-grade stainless steel
  • Can be used with the lid open or closed

USB-C Power Source

One of the best things that BGE did with the rotisserie is they made it so that it can use a USB-C power source. There are many Egg users that don’t cook near an outlet, and since it’s charcoal fueled, they like it that way.

Of course, you can plug the rotisserie into the wall, but you can also use a cheap portable battery pack. That means it’s simple to use the rotisserie anywhere without running a giant extension cord which adds to the setup and clean-up of cooking.

Includes a Carrying Case

It might seem like a minor detail, but I really like that the rotisserie comes with a carrying case. I have so many rotisseries sitting out in my garage, with no great way to store them. They’re awkwardly shaped and have spikes, so it’s not a good situation.

The carrying case not only makes it easier to transport but also gives a storage solution. To me, that’s a big benefit and adds to the premium nature of the rotisserie.

Premium Materials

All the materials used for the rotisserie are premium and made to last. Starting with the motor, it has enough torque to work with larger cuts of meat.

I’ve used rotisseries on other grills that are a little underpowered, so for even lighter meat like chicken, you need some tying skills and to find the center mass. Otherwise, it stops spinning part way through the cook, creating lots of problems. This rotisserie shouldn’t have that problem.

The premium materials extend to the spit and brackets where they used marine-grade stainless steel, ensuring lots of cooks without rust. It’s nice that one side has a handle for easy carrying, it’s usually just a metal rod.

The handle is nice because it’s made from a durable composite material, but it still matches the wooden handle on the Egg and the Egg itself. It’ll work well for many cooks.
