Big Green Egg Collaborates with FINEX on Limited Cast Iron Dutch Oven

Fresh off their successful EGGtoberfest, Big Green Egg has announced a new collaboration, and attendees of the Egg celebration got a sneak peek. They’ve partnered with premium cast iron manufacturer FINEX on a limited-edition Dutch oven.

The 5-quart cast-iron Dutch oven has signature co-branded artwork on the bottom that was designed by Atlanta artist Brian Steely. To show that the Dutch oven is truly limited, each one also has a serial number engraved on the bottom from 1 to 500.

The Dutch oven brings the usual FINEX “Guaranteed Good Forever” promise. It features a machined finish, comes pre-seasoned, and includes a lid to keep moisture inside.

When you cook on an EGG, you expect it to perform the same way every time, for years, even decades. That is the high standard we hold ourselves to, and it’s what we look for in a partner. FINEX crafts cast iron that’s made to be handed down. Craftsmanship and quality matter to them as much as they do to us, which made working together feel natural. This Dutch oven is our first Big Green Egg product with FINEX, and there’s more to come.

About FINEX

For those new to FINEX Cast Iron Cookware Co., they were started in 2012 in Portland, Oregon with the inspiration of antique cast iron cookware. They use some unique design elements in their cookware that set them apart from others.

The most obvious is, rather than a traditional round shape, their cookware has an octagonal shape. It makes it easier to pour out soups and gives you edges to work with when you’re spatula-ing (is that a word?) out food.

Another detail that I like is they wrap their handles in a metal coil for faster cooling. Those take me back to my family’s cabin in the woods in Canada that I loved going to growing up. We had a wood burning stove, and the plate lifters had those on them.

That attention to design and those details caught the eye of a big name in cast iron. For their first time in their history, Lodge bought FINEX in 2019. True to way Lodge manufactures, FINEX’s products are still built in the US at one of Lodge’s facilities in Tennessee.

More to Come

The 5-quart Dutch oven is just the first product release of the partnership between Big Green Egg and FINEX. They have additional co-branded products scheduled for 2027.

It’s a good pairing of brands because of because they both have a focus on longevity with their products. Plus, cast iron and live fire cooking go hand-in-hand.

Big Green Egg fans don’t buy something planning to replace it in a few years, and neither do ours. That’s a big part of why this partnership was an easy yes for us. Cast iron and live fire have always gone together, and this Dutch oven was made for exactly that: low and slow on the EGG, dome closed, for as long as you want to keep cooking.

The Bigger Picture

The partnership with FINEX is another great example of how Big Green Egg is progressing as a company. They always had a ton of accessories, I’d say almost too many. Many of them were “me too” products and they didn’t necessarily have a focus.

In the past few years, that’s completely changed. Their latest accessories have a specific focus on making the Egg work better and are centered around design.

They’ve also been strategic about their partnerships, and picked industry leaders for the co-branded products. Between the new accessories and the collaborations, it’s elevating an already iconic brand.
