BBQGuys Acquires Modular Outdoor Kitchen Brand Mont Alpi

BBQGuys announced today that they acquired the outdoor kitchen brand Mont Alpi. The acquisition adds to BBQGuys’ portfolio of owned brands.

Mont Alpi is a brand that offers modular outdoor kitchens, outdoor kitchen islands, and premium grills based in Irvine, CA. They’re a family owned business that’s been around for over 45 years.

Mont Alpi is a natural fit for BBQGuys’ continued growth. Their dedication to craftsmanship, customer experience, and modern design aligns perfectly with our mission to help customers elevate their outdoor living spaces. This acquisition allows us to expand our offerings and strengthen our direct-to-consumer experience. Combined with our ownership of Blaze and PCM, this acquisition enables us to offer one of the most comprehensive, vertically integrated outdoor kitchen ecosystems in the marketplace.

Russ Wheeler, CEO of BBQGuys

Mont Alpi joins BBQGuys other house brands, Blaze and PCM (Pacific Coast Manufacturing). Blaze makes premium grills and pizza ovens, while PCM is a leader in components. Adding Mont Alpi rounds out their line-up to offer a full outdoor cooking solutions.

We’re proud of what we’ve built at Mont Alpi, and joining BBQGuys unlocks significant opportunities to scale our reach, innovate faster, and deliver even more value to our customers. It’s a strong alignment of product vision, customer focus, and growth potential.

John Hartwig, CEO of Mont Alpi

As part of the acquisition, the current management team will remain on post-close. Their existing infrastructure will also continue to ensure a smooth transition. BBQGuys plans to invest in the brand to scale operations, expand product development, and deepen go-to market initiatives.

Mont Alpi currently sells through BBQGuys and through the independent dealer network. No indication was given on if that will remain the same, but BBQGuys does sell their Blaze brand through dealers in addition to their own platform. Blaze also had a partnership with Urban Bonfire on outdoor kitchen solutions.

We’re building a platform for sustainable, long-term growth, one that’s rooted in strategic M&A, product innovation, and customer experience. Mont Alpi fits within that vision.

Russ Wheeler, CEO of BBQGuys

The last revenue projections from BBQGuys had them at $500 million in 2023. Having a vertically integrated e-commerce platform instantly adds value to Mont Alpi.

BBQGuys’ comments about doing strategic M&A indicates we could see more deals in the future from the company. It’s not surprising given that they’re private equity backed. Other companies in the outdoor space have noted that they’re seeing more companies come to market with the current economic headwinds.

Sidley Austin acted as legal counsel to BBQGuys on the Mont Alpi deal. They also represented BBQGuys on previous deals, including when their flirted with going public through a SPAC merger.
