Do It Best acquired True Value out of bankruptcy in the fall of 2024. Since then, they’ve largely operated as two separate companies to plan for a smooth integration process.
This year, it’s time for consolidation with strategic moves being made to facilitate the process. Do It Best hired a COO to lead the process and now their bringing the teams of the brands together under one roof.
Do It Best is moving True Value’s headquarters from Chicago, IL to the Do It Best headquarters in Fort Wayne, IN. The headquarters is the anchor tenant in the Electric Works innovation district, which is part of the revitalization efforts for Fort Wayne.

It’s a big move for True Value, who has been headquartered in Chicago since 1948 when it was named Cotter & Co. Though not as big as the Chicago Bears potential move to Hammond, IN, it’s a win for Indiana and the Fort Wayne area. The move was announced with Indiana Governor Mike Braun in attendance.

Do it Best Group’s decision to establish Fort Wayne as the official world headquarters of True Value demonstrates that Indiana is a place where companies can grow, lead, and compete on a national and international stage. Do It Best relocated their headquarters to its current location in Fort Wayne in December of 2022. Their move from New Haven, IN was aided by a $2 million investment from Allen County over seven years that was matched by a like investment from the city of Fort Wayne.
Ahead of the True Value consolidation, Do It Best announced in February plans for a $12 million dollar expansion to their headquarters. Their expansion includes hiring 180 people by 2028 and is also being aided by an additional investment from the county and city.
