After teasing it over the last month, Gozney announced the next generation of their iconic Dome pizza oven. It’s the oven that was beloved by chefs and backyard cooks everywhere, and really put Gozney on the map.

The Dome Gen 2 is setting the bar once again for pizza ovens by getting bigger and adding all the tech that Gozney has developed along the way. In fact, not only is the Dome Gen 2 40% bigger than its predecessor, Gozney went even bigger with the new Dome XL that’s 90% bigger.

The new Dome is big enough to cook two pizzas at the same time and the XL is big enough to cook three. That’s tons of space for cooking not only pizza, but full meals in your backyard.

Features and Specs

  • Dome Gen 2 retails for $2,299.99 (check price), while the Dome XL retails for $2,799.99 (check price)
  • Comes in two colors, Bone or Off Black
  • Multi-fueled with wood, charcoal or propane
  • The Dome can get to 1,000 degrees F, while the XL maxes at 950 degrees F

Tech Features

Not only did the Gen 2 Dome get bigger, it also got smarter. There’s a digital display on the front that gives air and stone temperatures, a timer, and readings for the meat probes.

Speaking of meat probes, the Dome has two of them. That’s very helpful for all the times you’ll be cooking something other than pizza.

The electronics on the oven are powered with rechargeable battery packs. They charge with USB-C plugs for ease. That means there’s no wires you need to worry about when you’re cooking.

Build

The new Dome has a classic pizza oven shape with a flame that rolls across the interior of the oven. To keep the heat in, there are three layers of commercial grade insulation. The heat is retained in the oven with a 30 mm (1.18″) pizza stone.

To top the oven off, there’s a ceramic coating over aluminized steel for durability. The internal components are made from stainless steel.

All that insulation and size of the new Dome means that it’s a heavy oven. The Dome weighs in at about 137 lbs while the XL checks in at 161 lbs.

Conclusion

There wasn’t anything like it when the original Dome came out, and the same can be said for the new Dome. Gozney stayed true to what made the Dome special and added more size and tech to it. With multiple fuel options, it’s a versatile oven that will be fun to cook with, much like the original.
