Solo Stove bought IcyBreeze about two years ago, the company behind the cooler that doubles as an outdoor air conditioner. Last fall they felt that they could make a better product under the Solo Stove name, so in a surprising twist, they killed the IcyBreeze brand.

Now they’ve taken what they’ve learned from IcyBreeze, applied better design that Solo Stove is known for and created the Windchill 47 Cooler + Mobile A/C. It’s a neat luxury cooler that does much more than keep beverages cold.

Features and Specs

  • Retail price of $649.99 (check price)
  • Comes in two colors, tan or green
  • Holds up to 65 cans of frosty beverages
  • Real air conditioning to cool you outside
  • Includes a mister for the extra kick of cool

Air Conditioner

I’m going to glaze over the fact that the Windchill 47 is a cooler. I feel like everyone understands what a cooler is and what it’s used for. It keeps drinks and food cool.

An innovation with the cooler though is that it also is an air conditioner for the outside. If you’ve ever wanted a cold breeze while your at your kids’ sporting event, camping, grilling, or just sitting around, this is exactly what the Windchill is for.

It’s not just a fan on a cooler either, it has a heat exchanger, which you’ll find on your home air conditioning unit. A heat exchanger is a fancy way of saying it cools down hot air to blow out cool air.

None of the pictures show the internals to really see how it’s working, but I’m sure it’s sucking in hot air from the outside, cooling it with the cold air (and maybe water) in the cooler, and pumping it back out as cold air. The cooler comes with an extension tube so you can focus the air too.

Portable Power

Obviously to make fans and an air conditioner work, you need power. The Windchill gives you that in two different ways. It can be plugged in if you’re near an outlet, or it can be powered with a battery pack that will last for about three hours off a charge.

To take the cooler to the next level though, Solo Stove made the power accessible for other uses. There’s built-in USB-C and USB-A ports for charging whatever you want. That’s a really nice addition to this cooler.

Mister

If drinking a cold beverage while AC is blowing on you doesn’t cool you down enough, the Windchill also has a mister. There’s a misting pump that blows cold water droplets out to cool you down. It’s another great addition to this cooler.

Nice Design

Beyond the innovative tech features, the Windchill also has some really nice basic design features to make the cooler more useable. It has an extending handle with two wheels for portability, a bottle opener, and a cup holder. All those things make it work well just as a portable cooler.
