Charbroil, or Char-Broil as it’s still branded in the UK, has brought the latest version of their do-it-all Patio Bistro E2Coal grill to the UK market. They released it last year in the US and it’s just launched in time BBQ season overseas.
What’s unique about the grill is that it’s an electric grill that can also cook with charcoal. As if that’s not enough, you can also get a griddle for it to use as an electric griddle.
It’s small stature is perfect for small patios and other confined spaces. It’s also nice for small families that don’t need a large grill.
The small but mighty grill retails for £349 (check price), which is great value for the cost considering how capable it is. Beyond it’s different cooking modes, it also has a maximum temperature of 370 degrees C (about 700 degrees F).
You can switch from electric grilling to charcoal grilling with a quick grate change. What’s neat it they designed it so that when you’re using it in charcoal mode, the electric capability isn’t going to waste.
The electric heating element can be used to light the charcoal. That makes starting the grill a very easy process without the need for a charcoal chimney or other starting products.

Outside of the branding and styling differences from the US model, there are a couple other changes. The stated maximum temperature is a little hotter on the UK model and the cooking grates are different.
The US model comes with a porcelain enameled grate, while the UK model uses stainless steel. I’m a little jealous of that here in the US because I prefer stainless.
No matter where you are in the world though, the Bistro models have developed a following. Looking through reviews, there’s lots of people talking about their loyalty to the Bistro and how they’ve upgraded to the newest models through the years.
For good reason too, it brings versatility and whatever grilling experience you’re after. You can go with the ease of electricity, the increased smoke and fun of cooking with charcoal, or cook breakfast on the griddle.
