Big Green Egg has really been making investments into their tried and true cookers. They’re under new leadership and it’s clear they are listening to feedback and advancing the Egg to compete with anything on the market.
They have a new rotisserie that has some nice design to it, and now they just released new temperature products that are best in class. I love the angle they took by partnering with Combustion Inc.
We’ve seen a slew of wireless temperature probes come out over the past year from grill brands and most of them are cheap, white labeled products. By BGE partnering with a company that produces some of the best temperature products on the market they can focus on making great cookers, let another company focus on their core competency of thermometers, and combine the two into a seamless package.
Predictive Wireless Thermometer
The first product being released in the partnership is a predictive thermometer. A single one retails for $189.99 (check price), but I’d opt for the bundle at $399.99 (check price).
The bundle include two thermometers and, my favorite, a wireless display. It’s funny because starting five years ago companies started promoting using an app on your phone to monitor your cook on the convenience of it.
At the time I thought it was neat too. The more I’ve used a phone app though, the more I miss having a display so I don’t have to fumble with my phone while I’m doing something else on it, and usually with messy hands from cooking.
The themometers work with a phone app too, sure, but you aren’t stuck with just using your phone. It’s a much better setup.
The thermometers themselves have cool tech features too beyond just telling the temperature. They’re predictive, so they’ll do things like estimate when you’re food is done, so you don’t have to keep telling your family “20 more minutes”.
Giant Grill Gauge
It’s not on their website yet, but BGE will also being releasing a Giant Grill Gauge for the Egg. This is a gauge for the lid of your grill, but on steroids.
It has giant numbers for easy ready, but the best part is it will communicate with the wireless probes for an added display and better signal strength. It also brings much better accuracy than many lid thermometers.
The Giant Grill Gauge will be a nice pairing with an Egg. It takes the tried and true cooker and adds the latest tech to it to make cooking even more convenient.
