Ooni to Raise Prices Due to Tariffs, Follows Other Outdoor Brands

Even though there has been some relief announced with China, it still remains a higher tariff environment than previously. Higher tariffs means higher cost of goods for outdoor cooking companies.

We’ve seen many brands raise their prices to combat tariffs and preserve margins. The biggest names being Weber and Traeger. Now pizza oven maker Ooni is raising their prices.

Ooni sent out an email communication today that says the new pricing will go into effect on June 2nd. That gives consumers a chance to purchase at the pre-tariff pricing. They’re also probably working through their pre-tariff inventory, so sales are going to start costing them more on their financials.

Unfortunately, recent tariffs have significantly impacted our production costs, making selling some of our products at current prices unsustainable. We’ve worked actively with suppliers and partners to soften the impact as much as possible, and the upcoming price changes reflect that.

Ooni is based in the UK with an international customer base, so they do have some insulation from tariffs on sales outside of the USA. Much like other outdoor cooking brands though, the USA is their largest market.

One thing with the tariffs that will probably be confusing to consumers is when they see a lower tariff announced, they think it’s a flat rate for all products. They don’t understand the complexity behind it with tariffs on imported steel and the way tariffs may stack or supersede other tariffs. Ooni also alluded to that in their email.

You might be saying to yourself, “Didn’t those tariffs just go down?” The answer is that for some folks, yes, tariffs have eased somewhat. For Ooni, and a lot of other brands like us, the story is much more complicated. There are still material tariffs in place, and those very much affect almost all of our products.

One notable aspect about the strategy that Ooni took is they sent out an email announcing the price increases. We’ve seen tariff pricing announcements with smaller companies in the industry either through email or on social media but this is the largest brand to send out an email regarding the changes. Other large brands have just implemented the new pricing without communication.

No indication was given on what the new pricing will look like either in the email or on Ooni’s website. They’re current running a Memorial Day sale, which is another good aspect of them communicating their price changes. It gives consumers the opportunity to not just buy at MSRP, but at a discount.
