Ahead of the grilling season, all eyes are on how grill brands respond to tariffs. While the tariff situation is fluid, we’ve seen a number of brands already increase prices on their products.

Traeger raised prices on their grills previously on top of a plan to mitigate costs from sourcing and on the operating expense side of the income statement. Weber has now followed suit and raised prices on the majority of the grills they carry.

Weber has a more diverse supply chain with products being built in the USA, Europe, and Asia. Even domestically built grills may have some tariff exposure though because the parts may not be domestically sourced.

Weber has a much larger number of grill SKUs than Traeger, but below is a good sampling of the recent price increases.

The models that received the largest price increases are those that are imported, as you’d expect. The grills that we’ve identified that Weber manufactures in the USA are their charcoal grills, some of the Genesis line, and the Summit line. It’s notable that the Genesis SPX-435, Summit FS38, and Summit Smart FS38X S all didn’t receive any price increase.

Those are all domestically produced, but some companies have a different pricing strategy to balance margins across all their products. More expensive grills have traditionally had more price elasticity, so demand would be less likely to be impacted by price increases. You’ll see that on Traeger’s price increases, they increased the higher models by a larger dollar amount.

The Weber Smoque pellet grill was released earlier this year with a surprisingly low price of $699. That grill still hasn’t been made available for purchase yet, but it still had a price increase.

Traeger Promotion

We covered previously they Traeger raised their prices due to tariffs. In an interesting pricing strategy, they’ve discounted a number of models back to the pre-increased price.

From left to right on the table below there’s the original price, the new price from tariffs, the difference between the two, then the percentage increase. After that there’s the amount of the promotion and net price change from the Old price to the price after the promotion.

The highest model lines of the pellet grills aren’t part of the promotion, but the lower models were all discounted to their old price. Consumers may not have even noticed that Traeger raised prices in the first place because it happened before the start of grilling season. Seeing the promotion could encourage buying, which would allow Traeger to move more units while preserving gross margin.
