Weber Acquires Tech Company, June for $142.2 million

Weber announced today that they have acquired 100% of smart appliance and technology company June, makers of the June Oven and June OS. Weber had previously been working with June to develop Weber Connect, the platform that’s used for smart grilling and enables the smartphone connection through WiFi. Weber Connect, a technology that’s essential for the Weber SmokeFire pellet grill line, is powered by June OS.

The acquisition is a significant step in the advancement of our strategy to revolutionize the outdoor cooking experience through digital products, services, and experiences that make grilling more dynamic and exciting. June has been an invaluable partner in developing our Weber Connect platform. Adding June’s expertise and technology to our own allows us to accelerate our connected innovation programs and better address grillers’ needs with new products and services that offer simplicity and fuel grilling discovery through enhanced capabilities.

Chris Scherzinger, CEO of Weber-Stephen Products LLC

June co-founders Matt Van Horn and Nikhil Bhogal will stay with Weber and serve as President of June, and Senior Vice-President, Technology and Connected Devices of Weber, respectively. As Weber is driving innovation, Bhogal will work across all Weber research and development programs. Van Horn will continue to lead and develop the June Oven products and accessories business, which will become a strategic business unit within Weber. That’s good news for current and prospective June Oven owners.

We are proud to join Weber, the global leader in grilling and a partner we have enjoyed a meaningful relationship with for some time. This deal immediately broadens the reach of our technology and gives all June team members exciting new challenges to continue to bring intelligent cooking to households worldwide.

June was acquired by Weber for a total purchase price of $142.2 million, including $108.3 million of cash. Weber has been very focused on innovation with new grill offerings and even by starting a venture arm. They’re doing this while celebrating their heritage by releasing special edition 70th anniversary grills.
