Halo, a company known for their Versa 16 outdoor pizza oven, has announced the release of the first rechargeable, battery powered pellet grill. The Prime 300 is powered by a 12-volt 5Ah battery and can go 15 – 20 hours on charge. It’s available for pre-order now and ships in 1-2 weeks.
There are not shortage of options for portable pellet grills. They all have the same limitation though, they keep you tethered to an outlet or generator. With the Halo Prime 300, that’s no longer a problem. Featuring 300 square inches of cooking surface, you can take it away from an outlet to make cooking while tailgating or camping easier. If you’re running low on battery, it does include an AC adapter for power.

Pros
Obviously the biggest pro of the Halo Prime 300 is that it runs off a rechargeable battery. This makes it much more portable that other portable pellet grills on the market. It also has a good looking design with nice screen to monitor your cook.
Cons
For a portable pellet grill, it’s pricey at $499.99. One thing they could make clearer on their website is that the battery is sold separately, with no price shown. Want the docking station? That’s also going to be sold separately. Buying all of those add-ons could make the grill pretty expensive.
We’ll see what the price is all-in with the battery, but it might make it harder to justify the price when compared to other options. Another battery powered option is getting a grill like a Pit Boss portable pellet grill and an electric tailgate generator. Then you can power your grill and other electronics you have, without having a battery that’s confined to the Halo ecosystem. Granted, you’re paying a premium for the seamless solution of an internal battery on the Halo.
